Harvard University Professor Says New Research Shows That Drinking Water Helps Reduce Risk Of Diabetes And Reduce Weight Gain.
At the recent concluded “Sustaining the Blue Planet : Global Water Education Conference, held in Bozeman, Montana, USA, 13 -16 September 2011”, Professor Frank Hu from the Harvard School of Public Health Harvard University presented new evidence which shows replacing sugar-sweetened drinks with water can lead to weight loss and help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes by 7%.
In Malaysia, increasing numbers of younger Malaysians are afflicted by type 2 diabetes. The Metabolic Syndrome Study of Malaysia (MSSM) that was conducted in 2008, had uncovered startling facts : 22% (or 1 in 5) of those surveyed above the age of 18 are suffering from type 2 diabetes. Even more alarming is the fact that half of these people were unaware that they even have the condition. The rise in the occurrence of type 2 diabetes has been linked to the increase in obesity amongst the population. Bad diets such as regular consumption of junk food and lack of exercise, smoking etc. are the main causes.
